The Brian M. Anderson Memorial 5K Run, or “BA5K”, is an event organized to remember Brian Anderson. Brian was an outstanding 21 year old whose life ended abruptly on Mother’s Day 2005. An honors graduate of Washington Township High School, Brian had just completed Villanova University’s Engineering Program in only three years. He was about to embark on a career at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory in the Ballistic Missile Program. Outwardly healthy and full of life and promise, Brian collapsed suddenly while out with friends and never regained consciousness. It was later determined, after months of research, that Brian was the victim of Brugada Syndrome, a virtually unknown hereditary disease that causes sudden unexpected cardiac death in apparently healthy individuals. The sudden death is caused by severe disturbances of the rhythm of the heart.
